Committees for Reliability practitioner’s role in Safety and AI

Colleagues,

As we look toward 2026 and beyond, reliability practitioners are facing a defining moment. System complexity continues to increase, and artificial intelligence is increasingly positioned as a universal solution to engineering challenges. This shift has significant implications for the role, authority, and responsibility of the Reliability practitioner.

We are at a juncture where we can choose to observe this transition, or actively shape it.

To that end, two working committees are being formed within the ASQ Reliability & Risk Division:

  1. Expanding the Reliability Practitioner’s Role in Safety
  2. The Evolving Role of the Reliability Practitioner in an AI-Dominated World

These committees are not discussion groups. They are working bodies tasked with producing tangible outputs such as frameworks, guidance documents, and professional recommendations.

Participation will require active contribution, including:

  • Regular attendance at structured meetings
  • Engagement in focused working groups
  • Drafting and reviewing documents
  • Several hours per month of volunteer effort
