ASQ RRD series webinar: Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

GD&T is the solution to the seemingly endless argument about who made the mistake in manufacturing a part. Drawings that are not GD&T structured are open to interpretation. The designer sends the part back to the manufacturer indicating that it is not to print. The supplier responds that the print was followed. The isssue is how the drawing was interpreted. A drawing laid out from left to right, but where the manufacturer produced it reading it from right to left can result in numerous errors. This simple error in a complex drawing can result in position and tolerancing to be off, and not represent the intent of the designer. GD&T takes the interpretation out of the reading as all measures are taken from what are called datums. in this manner, both designer and manufacturer are reading it the same way.
