Abstract:
In June, 2019 the AIAG combined with the VDA and published the AIAG VDA FMEA Handbook. In January of 2021, the SAE published SAE J1739TM JAN2021 FMEA Standard which was a revision to the SAE J1739 JAN2009 FMEA Standard. The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the similarities and differences between Design FMEA methodologies contained in the AIAG VDA FMEA Handbook and the SAE J1739TM JAN2021 FMEA Standard. The presentation will also provide insight into the potential impact these two standards would likely have if adopted and implemented by the North American Automotive Industry.
