Reliability Strategy vs. Tactical Planning – Aligning DfR, ALT, RDT, and Growth Models to Business Objectives

In many organizations, reliability efforts fail to deliver measurable business impact due to a disconnect between high-level strategy and day-to-day execution. This session bridges that gap by establishing a structured framework that aligns Design for Reliability (DfR), Accelerated Life Testing (ALT), Reliability Demonstration Testing (RDT), and reliability growth models with overarching business objectives such as cost, quality, and time-to-market. Attendees will learn how to transition from reactive, test-driven approaches to a proactive reliability strategy that integrates cross-functional inputs, supports decision-making, and drives predictable product performance. Real-world examples will demonstrate how to balance technical rigor with business priorities to maximize ROI from reliability investments.

Key learning objectives include the following:

  • Understand the distinction between reliability strategy and tactical execution
  • Learn how to align DfR activities with product lifecycle and business goals
  • Develop structured approaches for ALT and RDT planning tied to risk and usage conditions
  • Apply reliability growth models to track and improve system performance
  • Integrate reliability metrics into executive-level decision frameworks
  • Balance speed-to-market with reliability assurance using risk-based methodologies

FRACAS Implementation and Closed-Loop Reliability Systems

A well-executed Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) is fundamental to achieving continuous reliability growth, yet many organizations struggle with incomplete implementation and lack of closed-loop effectiveness. This session provides a comprehensive guide to designing and operationalizing a robust FRACAS framework that ensures failures are systematically captured, analyzed, and resolved with measurable impact. Participants will explore how to integrate FRACAS with reliability growth models, field data, and cross-functional teams to create a sustainable feedback loop from design through post-market surveillance. The session emphasizes practical deployment strategies, data integrity, and governance models that drive accountability and long-term reliability improvements.

Key learning objectives include the following:

  • Understand the architecture and essential elements of an effective FRACAS system
  • Learn how to establish closed-loop corrective action processes with traceability
  • Integrate FRACAS with reliability growth tracking and field performance data
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and governance for cross-functional ownership
  • Utilize failure data to prioritize corrective actions and design improvements
  • Implement metrics and dashboards to monitor system effectiveness and closure rates
  • Drive cultural adoption of reliability as a continuous improvement discipline
